Business systems that run for decades.
Built for the people who use them.

I design and build the applications companies actually run on: order and delivery systems, fleet and shop programs, customer portals, and the integrations between them. Over 35 years in IT, from the server room to the application on top, and I am taking on new clients again.

10+years in production
900+deliveries a day
99.99%tickets closed first time
3M+delivery tickets processed

One delivery system, one client, ten years. The numbers are from its own records.

Experience

Over 35 years in IT, across every layer of the stack.

The layers of a business system: application, database, servers, network and firewall

I started in system administration and networks and worked up through databases to the applications people use all day. That path is the point: when something breaks in production, I know whether it is the code, the query, the server, the firewall or the carrier, because I have run all of them. The disciplines, roughly in the order I picked them up:

  • System administration
  • Network engineering
  • Security and firewalls
  • VoIP and telephony
  • Database administration
  • Application development
  • Web and mobile applications
  • ERP and EDI integration
  • Cloud and hosting
  • Physical security and cameras
  • Project and vendor management
  • Legacy modernization

What I build

The software a business runs on, and the plumbing under it.

Enterprise applications

Order management, routing and delivery, fleet maintenance, shop-floor tools, billing and EDI. Built for the people who use them all day, with the rules of the business enforced in the software rather than remembered by the staff.

Modernization without the cliff

Legacy stacks moved to PHP and Laravel on AWS, one piece at a time, with the old system running until the new one has proven itself on real data. Nothing goes live on a promise.

Integration

IBM i and DB2, SQL Server, MySQL, telematics, EDI X12 invoicing, document and email pipelines. The parts of a company that were never meant to talk to each other, talking.

Infrastructure that holds it up

AWS and on-premises Linux hosting, Windows servers, SonicWall networks and VoIP, PoE camera systems. The application is only as reliable as what it runs on.

Selected work

Systems with a track record.

Delivery tickets, 900 a day, ten years without a bad night

PHP / LaravelSQL ServerAWSMotive APIKiosk tablets

A Florida food distributor runs its routes on a tablet application I built: drivers load in, deliver, capture signatures and close tickets on cellular tablets, with two rules the software never lets slip. No signature, no close. Nothing delivered that was not on the truck. Ten years in, it closes better than 99.99 percent of tickets first time, more than three million so far.

It is now being rebuilt as a Laravel application on AWS, keeping every rule that earned that record and adding what the old stack could not: drivers identified through the truck's telematics gateway, the odometer read from the truck at fuel time, end-of-day returns reconciled against the live truck balance, a redesigned invoice emailed the moment a ticket closes, and a nightly hand-off to the back office that the accounting side never had to change for.

Fleet maintenance inside the ERP

PHP / LaravelSQL ServerTelematicsTablet app

A maintenance program built into the company's existing management system rather than beside it. Work orders open from driver inspection defects and engine fault codes pulled nightly from the trucks' telematics, from preventive-maintenance intervals in miles, hours or days, or by hand. Parts requests, stock movements and purchase orders feed the cost of each job; sign-off files a maintenance record and moves the service point. The mechanics get their own tablet app: PIN login, a job clock, checklists and photos that land in the vehicle's document trail. DOT packets go out as a zip with a manifest.

A safe bridge to the AS/400

IBM iDB2ODBC / JDBCLaravel package

The client's ERP lives on IBM i. I mapped the warehouse system's files, found the product-substitution link that nobody had documented, and built a reusable package so new web applications can query DB2 without endangering it: read-only by default, writes only by explicit opt-in, every query logged with the application and profile that ran it so the ERP's own audit trail can tell them apart.

Billing, EDI and the network underneath

EDI X12 810SonicWallVoIPIP camerasAWS

Invoices as X12 810 documents to a county school district, re-priced from the customer's price list and accepted by the receiver for years. Firewalls rebuilt on current firmware with the VoIP problems gone in the process. A PoE camera network on its own segment. Hosting on AWS for the applications that face the public and on premises for the ones that talk to the plant floor.

AI integration

AI that works inside the systems you already run.

Most companies do not need a new platform to benefit from AI. They need it wired into the order system, the reports, the inbox and the customer portal they use every day, with the business rules intact. That is where it pays, and that is the work this practice is built around.

Announcement

Florida Technology Consulting has partnered with UltraWeb Labs.

UltraWeb Labs is one of the leading AI integration firms in the business. Together we bring two things a successful AI project needs and rarely gets from one vendor: their AI practice, and decades of knowing how the business systems underneath actually work, the databases, the ERP, the delivery and billing flows that the AI has to respect. UltraWeb Labs leads the AI side; Florida Technology Consulting connects it to your operation and keeps it running.

Between us, if you can describe it, we will do our best to build it.

Reporting in plain language

Ask a question about orders, deliveries, inventory or costs and get the answer from your own data, with the query behind it visible and every answer traceable to the tables it came from.

Documents and email

Purchase orders, invoices, delivery confirmations and customer requests read, classified and routed automatically, with a person in the loop where a decision matters.

Customer-facing assistants

Order status, delivery windows, account questions and reorders answered on your portal or by email, drawing on live data rather than a script, and handing off to staff when it should.

Back-office automation

The repetitive work between systems: reconciling, re-keying, chasing exceptions. Done by software that follows your rules and leaves an audit trail.

How an engagement runs

  1. Assessment. A short look at your operation and data to find where AI earns its keep and where it does not. You get a written plan either way.
  2. Pilot. One process, built against your real data, measured against how it is done today.
  3. Integration. Wired into the systems your people already use, with the rules of the business enforced in the software.
  4. Operation. Monitored, maintained and improved, with one responsible contact who knows your business.
